Week 9

Another week of minimal workouts. I'm holding my own, but sure not improving this month. Actually, I think I may have taken a step back.

First of all,I think my coach has died. Have not heard from him in 2 weeks, and my schedule ran out a week ago. Since I am just barely getting workouts in, that's fine for now.

Prior to today, I managed 2 easy recovery runs for approx 8 miles total. Today, I wanted a long run. Planned on 8 miles at or below 75%. I really didn't feel like pushing myself.

Ran the Glacier Ridge loop. A good deal of this loop is in the open and it was WINDY today. In fact, so windy, that running into the wind would make the HRM go off. For the most part, I was able to keep it near the 75% mark. With about 2 miles to go, I started to smell barn and I picked up the pace. Turned the alarm off and just went with what felt good. My last mile turned out to be a 9:45 mile and an overall 10:15 pace. The run really, really felt good.

I also dug back thru my logs and checked out my recent 5k times. Hadn't run one since summer 2008, so nothing recent. However, last week's slippery 5k was better than 30 secs faster than anything that I'd run in 2008! whoo hooo.

Looking forward to running in some sunshine in southern California this week!
